My mom always! Took me downtown to see Santa. there was one Santa that did not want me to sit on his knee. I was not anywhere fat!
But most Santas gave the kids a little something. Candy canes, little toys. I got at one department store. Mattel’s match it a game puzzle.
The department stores windows. Always decked out with mechanical robots dressed in holiday outdoor outfits. (fake) snow and trains going around & around. Inside the stores would have garland and wreaths on the pillars. The scent of perfumes in the air. Marble floors “slick!. Salvation army kettles and bell ringers.
Some of the presents I got as a kid were!
DeLuxe playmobile, dart board, motorific torture track and such.
It took me at least! 40 yrs.! To even like fruitcake! I mean! Gelled pieces of imitation fruit?
Always! I looked forward to dinner! Either turkey, ham with all the trimmings! Stuffing & cranberry sauce were my favorites! Forget the other stuff! Pies! WOW!!!!!!
I think there was one time! When there was an evergreen tree in the home. the rest of the time was aluminum. To me, it did not matter. Christmas! Was Christmas!
When you’re a kid! Nothing else matters!
In my time!
Even with the war going on.
It was a much simpler time!
